L'Arche community—a wonderful model for sharing life……

Last year Wills Financial Group learned about the worldwide L'Arche communities of faith and friendship where people with and without intellectual disabilities share life together (www.larcheusa.org). We were touched by this caring, relationship-based organization and chose it as the beneficiary of our annual contribution in honor of our clients, specifying that half should go to the United States national L'Arche organization and half to the Friends of L'Arche Central Virginia. The latter group is in the early stages of forming a L'Arche community in the Richmond, VA, metropolitan area, and we plan to support and follow its progress. We encourage others to learn more about L'Arche, and especially the efforts underway to form a new community in Central Virginia, http://cvafriendsoflarche.wordpress.com/about-friends-of-larche-central-virginia/. Background information about the formation of L'Arche and its founder is available at http://www.jean-vanier.org/info/en.

Staying on top of world events….

Our research, reading, and learning have been focused on world events recently, and along those lines, Janet had a “front row seat” at the University of Virginia Investing Conference in mid-November, entitled, “The Political Cycle, Political Change and Investing.”  She returned to Richmond highly inspired by the informed comments of the distinguished speakers, such as former CIA Director George Tenet and widely-recognized professionals in the fields of economics, public policy, political analysis, fiscal responsibility, and investments.  The conference theme was quite timely, and the speakers talked about various regions and countries and discussed political change and its significant influence on the investing climate.  Janet returned to the office anxious to share what she had heard with our staff and with our clients.
